Long bio
Simone Davies is the best-selling author of The Montessori Toddler and co-author of The Montessori Baby and The Montessori Child, with over 600,000 copies sold in more than 30 languages worldwide. These books serve as comprehensive guides for bringing Montessori into the home, from conception through adolescence. Simone has also been featured in prominent publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Mother.ly, where she shares her insights into this deeply respectful approach to raising children.
With over 20 years of experience as an AMI-trained Montessori educator, Simone applies the principles both in the classroom and at home with her own two children (now young adults). Since 2008, she has been running Jacaranda Tree Montessori, her Montessori playgroup in Amsterdam, while also sharing her expertise globally through her popular Instagram, blog, podcast, and online courses.
Simone’s Montessori journey began in 2002 when she attended a Montessori playgroup with her children. It had such an impact on the way she was raising her children that, in 2004, she pursued her Montessori training with the Association Montessori Internationale, the training organisation set up by Dr Montessori’s family to maintain the integrity of the training. Since then, she has been committed to sharing the Montessori approach to raising children with families worldwide.
Simone makes the Montessori approach easy to understand and implement, so that Montessori can be applied in every family, wherever they are in the world. Just as Dr. Montessori started her work in the slums of Rome, Simone believes in making this approach accessible to all and that the information can be applied by each family in a culturally relevant way.
Above all, Simone believes raising children can be full of fun, connection, and trust when we slow down and observe our children. She invites us to see our children with fresh eyes, to support their development, and to build a respectful relationship with them. She believes together we can raise peaceful, responsible, and curious children—one family at a time.
